Maizbhandar Darbar Sharif 2019
Picture 1:
According to Sufi tradition the saints never dies they just take rest in the
own tomb. On that perspective we find the devotees are lighting candles and
burning fragrant stick (Agar bathi) to pay homage at the tomb of their beloved Bajan Kebla(Noble father)
Ahmadullah Maijbhandari.
Picture 2: Unlike
Salafi tradition--death anniversary is a matter of celebration ---according to
the Sufi tradition—in fact death is the promotion of life (Sheikh sadi). Hence,
we see the jubilant devotees are biting drums give a shout that it is carnival
time!
Picture 3: Every
year hundreds of buffalos are slaughtered to feed thousands of the visitors of
the Uras Sharif (Death anniversary carnival). Most interestingly none is
allowed to leave Darbar Sharif without getting fed tabaruk( Biriyanai(fried
rice) cooked with buffello meat) there.
Picture 4: This
is the best part of the festival as we find the followers are chanting carols
commemorating their bajan kebla(Noble father). The winter mist along with smokes
lit by the devotees radiating a mystic environment in the surrounding area.
Picture 5: As we
know Sufism addresses religion through symbol and spirit rather than strictly
following the monotonous routine of religion. We can clearly see the
enlightened tomb of Bajan Kebla(Noble father) symbolizes the 5 pillars of
Islam. In fact, this how Islam was spread all over Bengal fighting shy
of/avoiding the observance of strict rules.
